"Where learning is fun!"

Who is this guy?!

Hi everyone!  I grew up in Morris, IL where I was raised by a 2nd grade teacher and a school superintendent (which has given me a well rounded view on public education!). After a couple of years at Illinois State University, I moved out West to Utah in 1995.  While enjoying the mountains and snow of the Wasatch Valley, I received a Bachelor`s Degree in Environmental Science.  This took me to Portland, OR, where I got my Master`s in Teaching from Concordia University.  Meanwhile, I married and started a family.  Since I have always loved my childhood years here in the Midwest, I wanted my kids to enjoy the same experience.  My wife, Cheris, my daughter, Chloe, my son, Holten and I moved to Seneca, IL in 2006 where we`ve enjoyed small town life and a huge (to us anyway) yard.  Last year was my second year teaching in Oswego and I have had a tremendous time working with the children and adults in this community.

My Philosophy

It took me a long time to decide which grade I wanted to teach the most.  Each age group has its own unique opportunites and challenges.  After spending time with children from 5 to 15, I decided that I wanted to be there where it all begins... first grade!  This is where all children are still full of wonder and excitement about learning and I hope to keep it that way.  I believe that it is my obligation to inspire my students to not only learn the material taught in class, but to be excited about learning!  I will use any resources at my disposal to accomplish this goal.  Last year, I drew upon my musical background to help motivate my kids.  This year, I will build upon my successes and try out a few new ideas.
